Education Committee

A committee was constituted under the Chairmanship of Mr. Abdul Razzak Thaplawala and Co-Chairmanship of Mr. Ebrahim Qassim to award scholarships to the talented students of the Memon Community for higher studies, more specifically in the professional fields. The Committee has already started functioning at an even keel.

During the period under review, 25 applicants have been given scholarships  in the amount of Rs.2.8 million (US $ 46,700) out of which Rs.1.91 million (US$ 31,311) have been disbursed. Since the inception of the Scheme, total scholarship awards amounted to Rs.5.1 million (US $ 85,000)  to 46 students out of which an amount of Rs.4.29 million (US$ 70,328) has been disbursed.  Remaining ten applications are under process.

We have to inform the Members that the amount sanctioned in 2006 to the tune of US $ 100,000 by WMO (HQ) has not yet been received. We had pursued the matter in the last meeting of the Board of Management and also in the meeting of Trustees. We hope that the amount would be received in due course of time.  

The BOM of WMO PC has now decided to give extra emphasis on the education of students of the Memon community with particular reference to higher and professional education. Advertisements have been published in leading newspapers and Memon magazines inviting applications from talented and deserving students of the Memon Community for financial assistance for higher and professional education. The applications are processed within a short period of ten days with the least possible hassle to the students.

We appeal to the honorable Members of WMO to please donate generously for providing financial assistance for professional education to the talented youth of the Memon Community.
